Virtual Humans during DDW

During Dutch Design Week 2024, visitors were able to experience and interact with various Virtual Humans. MindLabs presented their virtual human avatar, MAI, the acronym for 'Mindlabs Artificial Intelligence'. MAI both showed the technical possibilities of virtual humans and initiated the dialogue about the future of Virtual Humans. By allowing visitors to actively experiment with MAI, we sparked the reflection on the boundaries between man and machine, and how technology can change the way we communicate and learn.

Fontys InnovationLab presented their project OFF human, a digital twin of the actor Steye van Dam. OFF human was designed to engage users in real-world conversations that feel natural, intuitive and adapt to emotions, context and personal preferences.

By learning from human behaviour and real data, this virtual human can respond with empathy, anticipate needs and offer thoughtful insights. The project emphasises human-centric interaction, making it ideal for applications in healthcare, customer support and training, where authentic, human-like engagement is key to improving the user experience.
