About
Artificial Intelligence has a lot of potential for investigative journalism. With the growing amount of data, smart search, selection and curation is of great importance. In this research project, ethicists, lawyers, data and artificial Intelligence engineers and journalism researchers are working together to identify the potential of AI for investigative journalism. Within It's a match, the IXD research group aims to create a lab environment in Mindlabs for journalists and students to experiment with different AI tools. In addition, we will develop workshops around the available tools to train journalists to do valuable experiments.
The overall aim of It's a Match is to explore how we can work together on digitising investigative journalism. Knowledge exchange is pivotal; as ICT professionals, we know what technology can do. Together with journalists and ethics experts, we can shape its application in a responsible way. The research group Moral Design Strategy is in the lead to ensure this.
At Interaction Design, we mainly work together with the research groups AI & Big Data and Journalism & Responsible Innovation. Partners in the project include The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, Pointer, Omroep Flevoland, Games for Health, MindLabs, L1, RTV Utrecht, Omroep West and IDfuse. The project is subsidised by a RAAK public grant from national governing body SIA.
