Grip op Geluid

Grip op Geluid

About

Many subject teachers of physical education suffer from high noise levels. Headaches, loss of concentration and overstimulation are common. The Grip op geluid project aims to contribute to a healthy working environment. In this project, we work together with hearing and sound specialists, the trade association KVLO, several municipalities, NOC*NSF and several Fontys institutes.

Exposure to high noise levels can cause irreparable long-term hearing problems. In addition, there are also secondary effects and many subject teachers experience voice problems, fatigue and loss of concentration as a result of the noisy work situation. With this project, we want to contribute to achieving a healthy working environment for subject teachers of physical education in primary education. Prevention of occupational hearing impairment starts with knowledge about -and awareness of- the risks that (too much) noise exposure can entail.

In this research, we analyse the quality of hearing, the noise levels to which subject teachers are exposed, the relationship between the acoustic parameters of the sports facility and the noise levels during courses, how the noise levels can be made transparent and the impact of noise on the well-being, communication and didactics of subject teachers. In the process, we will also develop an application that provides insight into noise levels. Finally, we are combining the knowledge and insights gained into information material for students and subject teachers with the aim of creating a healthy working environment for subject teachers in physical education.
